John Durden
founded the company in 1973 after his graduation from Georgia Tech
with a degree in industrial design. The company was founded on
John’s patent for a suction cutlery pencil used in surgery. That
same product is still being manufactured today in our medical
division. It was collaborative effort of John and his father who was
a surgeon.
Because of excess molding capacity John began
offering molding time on the plastic injection press. It became
apparent that tooling is an important function of plastic
manufacturing. Therefore, John went back to the Tech library and
learned to be a tool maker with the help of some mentors in the
industry.
Today the company boast’s of its state of the
art Production Tooling, molding facility, and FDA registered Medical Division
but it is the 65 people that make the operation a success. There are
three key skill positions that have had the same people in them for
20 plus years. The exciting part is to have seen these people adapt
and change as the technology has taken quantum leaps over the years.
The true key of success for Durden is always having the talented
personnel who understand technology and who use it effectively to
exceed the needs of our plastic and medical customers.
Presently John is enjoying his days on a sail
boat in the Caribbean but there is still a Durden involved on a
daily basis, as he has been for the last 16 years, brother Bill.
